Restoring Files from the SmartPick
Server
The following steps will guide you through the steps to restore the files previously saved to the SmartPick online backup servers. The process is the same for restoring one file or multiple files. You can restore selected files or all files that were backed up. You can restore your saved files to a new or different computer than the one you originally backed up. If you are restoring to another computer and if you need to install the SmartPick Backup client, you can download it from our website. (Click here to download). If you are restoring to the same computer, then go to Step 2. Step
1: Installing the SmartPick client software on to the computer you wish to restore to: To restore files you have already saved to SmartPick’s backup servers, you must have a copy of the SmartPick software installed on the computer you wish to restore to and configure it with the correct username and password. Ø Double click on the downloaded executable,
SmartClient.exe. Follow the instructions
on the screen to install the SmartPick Backup Client. Ø After the installation is complete, double
click on the SmartPick Backup icon on your desktop to open the program. Ø Click on viewàoptionsàGetting Started Wizard. Ø Follow the instructions on the screen to
configure the backup client: o
The server
name field is already filled with the correct name. o
Change the
port number to what was given to you at the time of sign-up. o
Fill in your
username and password. o
Continue by
clicking on Next. o
Provide your
Secret Key when prompted. o
Do not create
Backup Sets and Backup Schedule. o
Exit from the
Wizard by continuing till the last screen by clicking Next. Ø If the Backup Client didn’t perform an
upgrade during the Getting Started Wizard, o
Click on
View->Options->General and select Other tab. o
Click on Perform
Upgrade Now. The Backup Client is now configured and
ready to restore files. Step 2: Restoring your
files from the SmartPick Backup Server o To restore your files from the SmartPick backup server, select the Restore tab from the Main Screen of your SmartPick Software. o From the File Menu at the top of the screen go Select > Get Volume List from Server. This will display all data volumes previously backed up using this account. o Use the Windows Explorer-like interface to expand the file folders stored on the backup server to locate the files you wish to restore. o Select the file, file folder, or drive volume you wish to restore by placing a green Check in the box next to the listing. o When you have selected all
the files / file folders you wish to restore, press the Restore Now
button, in the middle of the right side of the screen. o On the Restore Files To window
that opens select that you want to “Copy files to their original location” if
you want to replace the existing files on your computer with the saved files,
or if you want to keep all of your existing files and directory structures
than select that you want to “Copy files to a temporary folder” and type in
the desired temporary directory. If
you selected a whole directory to restore, make sure that the “Rebuild folder
hierarchy for restored files” option is selected. o A connection will then be
made to the server, and the download of your files will begin. If you selected that you wanted to copy
the saved files to their original location, you will be prompted to confirm
any overwrites / replacements of existing files. o When the download completes
you can check the Log tab to see if the restore operation was
successful. Your saved backup files
are now restored to your computer. |
